Tucked away among the narrow streets of the city’s Old Quarter is Hanoi’s infamous “Train Street”, where residents coexist along a live train track with speeding trains passing through daily within inches of their front doors.
For most of any given day, community life spills from the houses onto the tracks until it’s time for the train to whizz by. Then there’s a quick scramble to gather possessions, kids and errant pets from the tracks. Within minutes it’s over and life along the railroad resumes undeterred.
It was the detail of this unique community’s everyday life that led me to pick black and white images over colour.
“Train Street” is within easy walking distance of Hoan Kiem Lake and well worth a visit 🙂
